Candle filtration elements for mechanical filtration of beverages
How does mechanical filtration of drinks work?
Because all unfiltered beverages or water contain some contaminants, particulates, and sediment, any filtration option must be equipped to handle varying sizes of pollutants in order to be effective.
Mechanical filtration solutions are multi-level filtration systems that operate with multiple filtration elements —such as depth filtration filters and membran filters. A depth filter functions like a sponge for a beverage or water which flows through. The sponge (depth mechanic filtration element) will captch the most of particulates because they are too large to pass through its gaps.
However, smaller particles in the beverage or water may not have been captured by this first filter, and that is why mechanical filtration solutions use a series of filters in progressively smaller sizes. As the particles pass through this descending series of filters, smaller and smaller pieces of sediment and other contaminants become trapped, and cleaner beverage or water continues on.
Even the best filter will be unable to stop the very smallest materials from passing through its gaps. In order to ensure that the beverage or water is as clean as possible, the final membran filter element is a final stage of the cascade. The membran filter captch the smallest impurities, so the molecules of contaminants like yeast, proteins or bacterias will not pass through.
