Description
PHE-SWP500 is the brazed (not be dismantled) plate heat exchanger with architecture B28Hx86. This equipment is used for the cooling of beer wort with maximal capacity 500 liters of beer wort per one hour, cooling down from 90°C to 25°C (if cold water 12°C is used as coolant) or from 25°C to 6°C (if glycol -4°C is used) . Two pieces of this PHE (double PHE system) are able to cool wort from 90°C to 6°C .
Classic brazed plate heat exchanger for a wider performance range, especially for water-to-water systems. Suitable for the cooling of wort, heating of liquids, DHW heating, smaller heat exchanger stations and as a plate heat exchanger for hydraulic oil. Performance 100–270 kW.
Description of the wort cooling process :
This is a necessary equipment for preparation of wort produced by each brewhouse. The single-stage plate heat exchanger is intended for cooling of the wort from 90 ° C to 25°C (a fermenting temperature for production of “ale” beer type) using the cooling medium with temperature from 12°C to 15°C (cold water).
If you use a double system (two pieces of this plate heat exchanger) then the second PHE system is intended for cooling of the wort from 25°C to 6°C (a fermenting temperature for production of “lager” beer type) using the cooling medium with temperature from -4°C (glycol).
The heat exchanger is not equipped with temperature and flow sensors and control elements.

Technical specifications :
- Recommended maximal flow : 10 m3/h
- Brazing material: copper
- Model version: plate exchanger from stainless steel (AISI 316)
- Dimensions (H × W × D): 526 × 117 × 203 mm
- The heat exchanger cannot be dismounted
- All fittings are with outer thread 1+1/4″ (5/4″)
- Testing pressure: 50 bar
- Maximal operation pressure 40 bar
- Weight 18.2 kg

Note : The maximum recommended flow is calculated for water to limit pressure losses to 30 kPa. Also the flow velocity at the inlet to the exchanger is kept under 5.5 m/s to prevent erosion from water. The pressure losses increase proportionally to the square of the flow rate.
Pressure limits :
- SC-Y intermediate pressure: for water/water use (approx. 20 bar)
- SC-S standard pressure: for water/water use, some refrigerants (approx. 30 bar)
- SC-M medium pressure: for refrigerants (approx. 48 bar)
- SC-F intermediate pressure: for refrigerants (approx. 50 bar)
- SC-H high pressure: for refrigerants (approx. 55 bar)
- SC-D, SC-E higher pressure: for CO2 (approx. 55 bar)
- SC-U ultra high pressure: for CO2 (approx. 100 bar)
Applications
Cooling or heating of beer wort up to 500 lt/hour from 90°C to 25°C (single PHE system) or from 90°C to 6°C (double PHE system).
